Sharing and Feedback
1. Feelings about the program
The First Cloud AI Journey internship program has been a very practical learning experience. I felt challenged and supported throughout the 8 weeks. The combination of theory, AWS labs, and building Lexi helped me understand how a real web product comes together from architecture, authentication, frontend and backend work, to testing and handover. The guidance from the AWS team and mentors was invaluable.
2. Satisfaction level
I am highly satisfied with the program (9/10). The curriculum was well-structured, covering important AWS services from basic to advanced levels. The weekly sessions, community events, and the process of building Lexi significantly improved the learning experience. The only area for improvement would be more time for complex frontend/backend integration work.
3. Knowledge gained
Throughout the program, I gained deep knowledge in:
- AWS core services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, and Cognito
- AWS SAM and the serverless deployment model
- Next.js App Router, React 19, Tailwind CSS v4, and React Query
- Auth flow, route guards, and token handling for web applications
- WebSocket for realtime speaking sessions
- Security best practices with IAM and least privilege
This knowledge directly contributed to my Lexi project.
4. Skills improved
Beyond technical skills, I improved several soft skills, including:
- Writing structured technical documentation
- Explaining architecture and system flows more clearly
- Collaborating in a team environment while integrating multiple parts
- Managing time across study, project work, and testing
- Solving problems under pressure when debugging cross-stack issues
These skills will be valuable in future work.
5. Areas for improvement (for the program)
Some suggestions for improving the program based on my experience:
- Support students with tight internship schedules — Many universities only allow 2-month internships, but the program is designed for 3 months. There should be support options for students to complete within a shorter timeline without being overwhelmed
- Update internal documentation regularly — Many guides have outdated approaches that don’t match the latest AWS versions
- Clarify rules and expectations from the start — Deadlines and performance evaluation methods should be explained clearly
- Strengthen team integration — Organize social gatherings more frequently so students feel like part of the team
- Increase feedback frequency — Weekly feedback would help students improve faster and adjust direction earlier
6. Would you recommend the program to friends? Why?
Absolutely, I would highly recommend the FCJ internship program to anyone interested in cloud computing and building web products. The program provides:
- Real-world experience with AWS
- Access to industry mentors
- A supportive community
- The opportunity to build a portfolio product like Lexi
It is an excellent launchpad for a career in cloud technology and full-stack development.
